What did you do?

During the day 4th of October we were working on the Royal Decree 126/2014 that is where the curriculum for primary education is established and where we can observe the regulation of the elements determining the teaching and learning process for each educational stage.
After that we divided the class in pairs to do an exercise in which after observing an exercise intended for students, we had to decide which key competences were worked in that exercise.

What did you learn?

We could learn how to identify the competencies that are worked in certain exercises, since we normally do the opposite to carry out the activities depending on the competencies that we want to work.
we could also learn how arts are nowadays less and less valued in our schools with fewer and fewer hours of lessons. For instance, music, arts or other subjects do not have so much value in our classrooms.

What is your opinion?

In relation to the subject of arts I think that in Spain we do not care so much about things like drawing, theater classes, music, etc, and are very underrated. For example, arts it is very important for children since they can enhance the intellectual capacities of children, makes them think of themselves, among many other things. The theater classes are also very good for our students as they lose the fear of speaking in public while they are having fun and they know more their class mates.

During my experience as an Erasmus student in the Czech Republic I had the opportunity to volunteer at a school called “Monty school” where I could observe how the students did many activities. For example, once a week they had a cooking workshop where they made a recipe and then they ate the food between them. They also did occasional gardening workshops when the weather allowed it, among many other activities. I think that all this type of activities is very useful for the students, since they are learning for their daily life when they finish school and with some methodologies in which they have fun and enjoy it a lot.

What did you do? On October 19th, we started the lesson taking a look at portfolio box. It can be a good suggestion to do it in class. Students will be able to keep in their boxes their best projects in English, or any other subject. What did you do? In this day it was shown to the last project related to the book, concretely the topic of classroom management. So, we could learn tips and ideas that might be helpful for us while we are teaching in a school. What did you learn? One method to start the class that serves as motivation for students is to circle while a song is playing, and they are passing a puppet with their eyes closed. When the music sounds, one of the children has to guess who has the puppet. An interesting thing that we could see during the exhibition was a vocabulary box in which the students can put the tricky words or simply the most difficult during the whole course. That box will be in a visible place in the classroom for the students, with the help of the teacher, frequently revise those words. What did you do? That day we had a conference, in which a principal of a rural school came to talk about how is to work there. Back to class, we talked a bit about what we thought about that conference.  We also talked a little about bloom taxonomy and started briefly the evaluation unit. What did you learn? We talked a little about repetition in elementary school children. we could learn that repeating can be a hard shock for most of the children. It is important to make the decision, studying each child individually and helping them with the change and the role of families is fundamental in these cases.
